Christians since you are smart. Can you tell me what this verse means?

This was old law. This applied to Jews under the old law, not to Christians today. We are under the new law (testament). And no, this was not a metaphor. They had very strict rules back then, but thankfully, we are under a better more merciful one now. They also had to sacrifice animals and cleanse themselves for days if they touched certain things, they couldn't eat certain foods...it was very detailed and complex and difficult. No one is under the old law anymore, we are all the same for the new law was given to "the Jew first, and also to the Greek". The old law was fulfilled through Christ. He was prophesied in the old testament, he is the Messiah, he has come. No rude comments from Jews or atheists, he asked for a Christian answer, so I gave it. I'd be ok with any law given by God, but his Word is complete, there will be no new laws, so thankfully, I don't have to worry about that.
